CIA Shooting at Headquarters-January 25, 1993
On January 25, 1993 Aimal Kasi shot and killed two agents at the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia. He shot and killed Lansing H. Bennett and Frank Darling. Others were shot but they were left with only wounds.
Kasi bought an assault rifle he purchased in the US. He later went back to Pakistan for protection. He was arrested by FBI agents on June 15, 1997, and was flown back to the US two days later. During a confession, Kasi said he only stopped firing because "there wasn't anybody left to shoot," and he only shot males because "it would be against my religion to shoot females".
Kasi was charged with capital murder of Darling, murder of Bennett, three counts on malicious wounding, and related firearms charges. Dr. Richard Restak, a neurologist, said Kasi was missing tissue from his frontal lobes, which makes it hard for him to judge his actions. The trail lasted 10 days in a Virginia state court, and he took a plea of not guilty on all charges. The jury found him guilty, and fixed punishment for the capital murder at death. He was sentenced to death on February 4, 1998.
He was executed on November 14, 2003 by lethal injection at Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Virginia.
