World Trade Center Bombing- February 23, 1993.
Explosive expert Ramzi Ahmed Yousef arrived in New York City from Pakistan in September 1992. His intentions were to attack the World Trade Center. His plan was to topping the north tower into the south tower. He received help from Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, an Egyptian-born Muslim cleric who spoke in sermons of destroying the "edifices of capitalism."
On the day of the bombing, the plotters loaded their homemade bomb, weighing about 1,200lbs, into a yellow van. They drove it from New Jersey in Manhattan. Once they got to the tower, they entered the basement parking garage between the north tower and a hotel, parked in an illegal spot on a ramp, lit for 20-foot fuses, then got into a car that had trailed them and sped off. At 12:17pm. the bomb exploded, knocking out the WTC's sprinklers, generators, elevators, public address system, emergency command center and most of the power. Six people died, including one pregnant woman. Over 1,000 people are injured, most from smoke.
